Geography Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Geography Maternity Cover Teacher (full-time)

Starting August / September 2019

The College invites applications from well-qualified and enthusiastic A level teachers.    This is an exciting opportunity to work for this small and friendly department.  This is a temporary, full-time position to cover a maternity absence for one year, in the first instance.  NQTs are welcome to apply.

Salaries will be on the sixth form college teacher salary scale between £24,947 and £38,748 depending on experience, plus London Weighting £2,533 per annum.

Essential Requirements

• Honours degree in Geography or related subject.
• Teaching qualification.
• Recent experience of teaching A level Geography.
• Ability to teach both human and physical A level Geography.
• Ability to employ a diverse range of engaging teaching strategies, including practical fieldwork which support students in the promotion of high quality learning.
• Evaluative approach to own teaching and willingness to try new activities.
• Commitment to updating knowledge of world affairs to ensure that students’ experience of Geography is current and relevant.
• Ability to help devise and deliver engaging schemes of work.
• Competence in assessing student progress and giving effective feedback using AFL to ensure progression.
• Good ICT skills and an interest in using ICT as a tool in teaching and learning.
• Competence to undertake the duties of a personal tutor to post-16 age group.
• Understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity in practice.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for planning learning and working as part of a team.
• A commitment to safeguarding the interests and needs of young people.
