Student of the Week
Student of the Week - Yoey Pang
Another popular candidate for SOTW - and another recent Jack Petchey award winner. Yoey is an outstanding ambassador for Woodhouse College.
Not only has Yoey volunteered to help out on parents evenings, open days and interview days, she has also been outside the college (helping to man our Woodhouse information stand at Heartlands High recently) talking to year 11's and their parents about college life and promoting Woodhouse.
She has been an active charity fundraiser and even joined in a sponsored silence for a whole college day. "Not easy..." she admits. Yoey is also part of our mentoring scheme, helping out L6 students with maths coursework.
And her volunteering is not just confined to the college, she also helps out a local community centre - going on walks and trips with some of the elderly locals or helping out some of the young kids with homework and tuition. She doesn't think this anything special...
"I've always helped people out where I can. I don't volunteer to win stuff or get recognition, I just enjoy helping others to feel happy"
It's not all work for Yoey though, she enjoys playing music (mostly chopin of late) and will soon be taking her Grade 8 Piano exams - "So scary..." she jokes.
She also likes sports and has won and placed second at two badminton tournaments at Woodhouse. She used to be keen on table tennis and even played in some national competitions when she was younger, but found the practice regime to be time consuming and now prefers to concentrate on her A level studies.
Yoey is studying Maths, Art and Physics and has an offer to study Civil Engineering at Loughborough University.
"My two years here are nearly over and it's gone by so fast - I really don't want to leave.
Back in year 11 I didn't know that much about Woodhouse, but then I came to the open day and that really swung it for me. People are so friendly here and there is so much going on. It's a great mix of having your independence and yet being really supported at the same time.
It's quite a change after my old school (Yoey came to us from the Wren Academy) and I like that it was a fresh start for everyone when we enrolled, and for me - a chance to be the person I wanted to be."
We thank Yoey for her outstanding and selfless contribution to the Woodhouse College community and wish her the very best for her future.
